About Us

Hidden Local Gems started as a spark of inspiration during one of our weekly family hikes on one of our favorite trails at First Landing State Park, the Osmanthus trail.  Our family, including our daughter, son, and Labrador mix, has enjoyed First Landing since our kids were toddlers.  We've always come for the natural tranquility and renewing energy that defines this magical place. It's our local sanctuary that makes all of our worries and stressors melt away.  This park brings us back to where we all should be - connecting with the sights, sounds, and smells of nature and the calming energy it brings.  During our hikes, we take in the forest's healing energy as we dream, ponder, and give thanks.  We often remark about the beauty and sounds of the cypress swamp, ferns, and wildlife.  It's a total mind reset every time, and it never disappoints. This site is for those who, like us, cherish the natural, hidden local gems in their community and want to show their love and appreciation for them.  We created different products for some of the unique trails within the park, and hope your favorite is among them.  Our goal is to create collections of hidden local gems in other towns (starting with the Virginia and North Carolina), so that people like you can proudly share their favorites whenever they like.
